Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko held a bilateral meeting on Tuesday, focusing on strengthening trade, investment, defense cooperation, and regional collaboration. The leaders reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing mutually beneficial ties.
Welcoming President Lukashenko at the Prime Minister’s House, Shehbaz Sharif emphasized the importance Pakistan places on its relationship with Belarus and expressed optimism that the visit would pave the way for expanded bilateral cooperation.
The meeting covered a range of topics, including political relations, trade and investment, defense collaboration, and regional issues. Both leaders expressed satisfaction with the progress in Pakistan-Belarus relations over the past decade.
Prime Minister Shehbaz outlined his government’s economic revival policies aimed at promoting export-oriented growth and attracting investment. President Lukashenko, in turn, expressed gratitude for the warm hospitality and reaffirmed Belarus’s commitment to deepening ties with Pakistan.
During a joint press briefing, Prime Minister Shehbaz announced plans for continued discussions, including another meeting in two weeks to finalize actionable steps. Agreements are expected to be signed in February to further enhance bilateral collaboration.
President Lukashenko described Pakistan as a close and friendly nation, highlighting Belarus’s interest in sharing technologies and purchasing Pakistani products, particularly textiles. He also praised Prime Minister Shehbaz’s pragmatic leadership.
The Belarusian president’s visit began with a ceremonial guard of honor at the PM House. The visit is seen as a significant step in bolstering the relationship between the two nations, with a shared vision of leveraging each other’s strengths.
