Israel launched strikes on the Syrian capital Damascus and a military site near Homs on Thursday, as tensions in the region continue to rise. The Syrian Ministry of Defense reported that the attacks targeted the Kafr Sousa neighborhood in Damascus and a military location in the Homs countryside, resulting in the death of one soldier and injuries to seven others. Material damage was also caused by the strikes.
These attacks come as U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken tours the region, pushing for a ceasefire. Israel has intensified its raids against Iranian-linked targets in Syria since the October 7 Hamas attack, marking a significant escalation. In response, Hezbollah has also escalated its involvement, firing precision missiles at Israeli targets for the first time.
The strikes are part of the broader conflict spreading across Lebanon and Gaza, with the situation becoming increasingly volatile as efforts for peace continue.
