Alia bhatt’ jigra struggles at the box office amid controversies and criticism.

The much-anticipated film Jigra, directed by Vasan Bala, Anirudh Chawla, and Rashid Mubarak, featuring Alia Bhatt in the lead, has underperformed at the box office, becoming one of the Bollywood star’s lowest-grossing films. Released on October 11, 2024, the movie was initially shrouded in secrecy and praised for its acting, but has sparked debates and dissatisfaction regarding its commercial success.

Despite two months in theaters, Jigra failed to resonate with audiences, with critics pointing out that the film did not meet expectations. The plot centers on Alia Bhatt’s character, a brave sister who embarks on a daring mission to rescue her brother. However, public interest has been lacking, contributing to the film’s struggles.

The film’s director, Vasan Bala, acknowledged the issues at the box office, stating, “Something has happened where people have stayed away.” The movie also faced controversy before its release, including tensions between Bala and Karan Johar over script changes and plagiarism allegations from actress Divya Khosla, who claimed the story was copied from her work. Amid mounting pressure, Bala even deleted his social media accounts.

Currently, Jigra has grossed ₹27.30 crores, a figure far below expectations. Critics praised the film’s first half for its intriguing narrative but noted that the second half lacked pacing and required better editing. The film’s financial and creative struggles have made it a topic of ongoing debate in Bollywood circles.
