Pakistan’s Taekwondo team has made history by clinching the 6th Asian Open (Kyorugi) Taekwondo Championship title in Indonesia, achieving an impressive haul of three gold, three silver, and two bronze medals. This remarkable accomplishment marks the first time both male and female Pakistani athletes have reached such a milestone at an international taekwondo event abroad. The team finished in 1st place, with Kazakhstan taking the 2nd spot and Malaysia coming in 3rd. Additionally, Team Pakistan was awarded the Best Team title, while Shahzaib was recognized as the Best Athlete and Yousef Karami as the Best Coach. The gold medals were won by Shahzaib (-54 KG), Haroon Khan (-58 KG), and Miss Manisha (+73 KG), while silver medals were secured by Abubakar (-58 KG), Ikhtasham UL Haq (-87 KG), and Hamza Omer Saeed (+87 KG). Mazhar Abbas (-80 KG) and Miss Maliha Ali (-73 KG) brought home the bronze medals. Several athletes, including Noman Khan (-63 KG), Saud (-63 KG), and Arbaz Khan (-68 KG), reached the quarterfinals but did not advance further. On this momentous occasion, Lt Col. (R) Raja Wasim Ahmed, President, Omar Saeed, CEO, and Kooboong Kim, Patron-in-Chief of the Pakistan Taekwondo Federation, extended their congratulations to the team for their outstanding performance in this prestigious event.
