The first group of 27 Palestinian medical students has arrived in Lahore from Cairo to pursue their medical education in Pakistan. This comes as part of a scholarship initiative announced by Pakistan’s foreign ministry in July, offering support to over 100 Palestinian students affected by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
Since the escalation of violence on October 7, 2023, Israel’s bombardments have claimed over 42,000 lives in Gaza, sparking international outcry and demands for a ceasefire.
Pakistan’s Embassy in Cairo, alongside representatives from Al-Khidmat Foundation, facilitated the students’ departure to Lahore. This group is part of a larger cohort of 192 Palestinian medical and dental students from Gaza, who will be enrolled in fully funded programs at various medical institutes in Pakistan.
The scholarship initiative is a collaborative effort between Pakistan, Global Relief Trust, Doctors of Rahman, and Al-Khidmat Foundation, aimed at ensuring the continuity of education for Palestinian students amidst the crisis.
