Billionaire Elon Musk announced on Saturday that he will give away $1 million each day until November’s election to individuals who sign his online petition supporting the U.S. Constitution. The first recipient, John Dreher, was awarded a $1 million check at a Pennsylvania rally Musk held to support Republican candidate Donald Trump.
“John had no idea. So anyway, you’re welcome,” Musk said while presenting the check.
This initiative is part of Musk’s broader efforts to influence the closely-contested presidential race between Trump and Democratic candidate Kamala Harris. Through America PAC, a political action committee Musk founded to back Trump, he aims to mobilize voters in key battleground states, though reports suggest the group is facing challenges in reaching its goals.
At the Harrisburg rally, Musk framed the election as critical to the nation’s future, stating that if Harris wins, it could be “the last election,” implying a threat to the U.S.’s existence. He also referenced two assassination attempts against Trump as proof of his disruptive impact, contrasting this with Harris, whom he referred to as a “puppet.”
Musk’s petition, focused on defending the First and Second Amendments, requires attendees to provide their contact information, helping America PAC target more potential Trump voters. So far, Musk has contributed at least $75 million to the group, which has become a vital part of Trump’s re-election efforts. In return, Trump has promised to appoint Musk to a government efficiency commission if he wins the election.
