Federal Minister for Information, Broadcasting, National Heritage, and Culture, Attaullah Tarar, on Monday celebrated the approval of the 26th constitutional amendment, calling it a landmark moment in Pakistan’s democratic history.
“The passage of the 26th constitutional amendment is a significant milestone for the country; a new dawn has begun,” Tarar stated, extending congratulations to PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, JUI-F leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the federal cabinet, coalition parties, and the nation.
Tarar emphasized that the amendment would enhance stability within Pakistan’s constitutional and legal systems. He highlighted the extensive consultations held to build consensus, ensuring the amendment reflects the collective will of the people.
The minister also drew a connection to Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s vision, asserting that the amendment aligns with the foundational constitutional principles established by Pakistan’s founding father. “History will prove that this amendment is in the best interest of the people,” Tarar declared.
According to the minister, the amendment aims to remove barriers to the swift delivery of justice, with a focus on flexibility in politics and rejecting stubbornness. He affirmed that the people, the state, and democracy are the true victors of the day.
Tarar explained that the amendment reinforces the democratic agenda by strengthening the rule of law and the supremacy of the Constitution. Additionally, it is expected to improve transparency in the judicial appointment process and provide a clearer evaluation of judges’ performance, empowering Parliament to function as the supreme institution in accordance with the 1973 Constitution.
