Tensions flared at Dodger Stadium during the Padres’ 10-2 win in NL Division Series Game 2, as rowdy fans threw baseballs and trash, causing a 12-minute delay in the seventh inning. The projectiles appeared to target San Diego left fielder Jurickson Profar, who had made a sensational home run-robbing catch earlier in the game.
“This is just not acceptable,” Padres manager Mike Shildt said of the fan behavior.
On the field, Dodgers pitcher Jack Flaherty and Padres slugger Manny Machado exchanged words after Flaherty hit Fernando Tatis Jr., further escalating tensions.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts was shocked by the chaotic scene, calling it “ugly” and unlike anything he had witnessed at the ballpark.
Profar’s dramatic first-inning catch, robbing Mookie Betts of a home run, sparked verbal exchanges with fans, and the situation worsened during the seventh inning when fans began throwing objects. Profar motioned back at the crowd, prompting umpires, Padres players, and Shildt to intervene, with Xander Bogaerts eventually calming the situation.
Despite the turmoil, the Padres maintained their lead and secured the win.
