Punjab government blocks lahore roads, closes motorways to thwart PTI protests.

In a bid to prevent Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers from protesting as called by jailed leader Imran Khan, the Punjab government, following the federal government’s lead, has blocked roads across Lahore with containers.

Despite the crackdown, PTI workers have vowed to reach Minar-e-Pakistan. Key areas like the railway station, Minar-e-Pakistan, and general bus stands have been sealed off. Over 2,500 PTI workers were arrested, and Rangers have been deployed alongside the Punjab police to maintain order.

Motorways connecting Lahore to other cities, including Babu Sabu Interchange and Thokar Niaz Baig, have also been closed. Additionally, the Punjab government has imposed Section 144, banning all political gatherings in Lahore from October 3 to 8 and in Rawalpindi, Attock, and Sargodha from October 4 to 6.

The imposition of Section 144 has been challenged in the Lahore High Court, with the petitioner arguing that it violates citizens’ constitutional right to protest.
