During the Youth Convention in Islamabad, Federal Energy Minister Awais Ahmad Leghari acknowledged the high cost of electricity production in Pakistan and emphasized the urgent need to generate an additional 29,000 megawatts of power.
Leghari discussed ongoing efforts to tackle the energy crisis through sector reforms and highlighted the benefits of reducing load shedding. He stressed the importance of addressing the challenges associated with expensive electricity generation.
The minister noted the support from international partner China and announced the formation of a task force to address issues related to independent power producers (IPPs). He also pointed out inefficiencies in gas usage and suggested that a new package may be introduced to address these concerns.
