Bangladesh head coach Chandika Hathurusingha expressed his team’s readiness for the upcoming first Test against Pakistan, set to begin on Wednesday at Pindi Stadium, Rawalpindi.
“We are prepared for whatever challenge Pakistan throws at us,” Hathurusingha stated during a media briefing. He noted that the Pindi pitch appears favorable for both fast bowling and batting, and emphasized Bangladesh’s strategy of including a strong contingent of fast bowlers in response to Pakistan’s selection.
Hathurusingha also highlighted the strategic inclusion of all-rounders Shakib Al Hasan and Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who offer spin options. He explained that the team selected spinners based on merit, anticipating conditions in Pakistan to differ from those in Bangladesh.
The coach expressed gratitude to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for their support, particularly for allowing Bangladesh’s A-team to play in Lahore and providing excellent facilities. “We are pleased with our preparations and look forward to the challenge ahead,” he said.
Hathurusingha also addressed recent protests in Bangladesh, offering condolences to affected families and hoping for a swift resolution. He affirmed his commitment to his role but mentioned that he is open to changes if the board decides to make them.
Despite concerns about Bangladesh’s batting, Hathurusingha remained optimistic, citing potential improvements in batting conditions in Pakistan. He praised Shakib’s improved fitness and form and expressed confidence in the team’s young and promising fast bowlers.
Additionally, Hathurusingha commended Mushtaq Ahmed, who has recently joined the Bangladesh coaching staff, for bringing valuable global experience to the team.
Both Pakistan and Bangladesh teams participated in training sessions at the Pindi Stadium as they gear up for the Test match.
