Nazia Hassan’s Journey

Nazia Hassan’s illustrious career began at a young age with the hit song “Aap Jaisa Koi…,” which catapulted her to international fame. Born on April 3, 1965, Hassan quickly became a household name through the popular Pakistan Television program Sung Sung during the late 80s. Her untimely death on August 13, a day before Independence Day, deeply saddened the nation.

Pride of Performance

Throughout her career, Nazia Hassan garnered numerous accolades, including Pakistan’s highest civil honor, the Pride of Performance. Her debut single, “Aap Jaisa Koi…,” released in 1980, was followed by her groundbreaking album Disco Deewane in 1981. This album became the best-selling Asian pop album of its era, reaching audiences in 14 countries and becoming an anthem for the youth. The song “Disco Deewane” was so influential that it inspired a segment in Karan Johar’s 2012 film Student of the Year. At just 15, Hassan also became the first Pakistani singer to win an Indian Filmfare award in 1980.
