Kemar roach returns to west Indies test squad for south africa series.

Kemar Roach is set to rejoin the West Indies Test team for their upcoming home series against South Africa. Roach, who missed the recent tour of England due to a knee injury sustained during the County Championship, will make his return to bolster the bowling attack.

In the squad adjustments, fast bowler Alzarri Joseph has been rested, with Joshua Da Silva taking over as vice-captain. Head coach Andre Coley explained the decision, stating, “We have decided to rest our vice-captain Alzarri Joseph for this series. He has had a considerable workload recently, and this break will allow him to recuperate and return to peak performance.”

Coley further elaborated on Joseph’s workload management, emphasizing the importance of rest and skill development. “It always helps to have a period of time away from the game to work on your individual skills,” he said. “So it’s building in the right amount of rest time where he does nothing, but then also having little periods where he is not in competition. That way he will be able to create more control around his bowling.”

Offspin-bowling allrounder Kevin Sinclair remains absent from the squad as he continues to recover from a fractured left forearm sustained during the England tour.

New faces in the 15-member squad include uncapped offspinner Bryan Charles, pace-bowling allrounder Justin Greaves, and left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican. They replace Jeremiah Louis and Akeem Jordan, who were sidelined due to injuries. Zachary McCaskie, Kirk McKenzie, and Akeem Jordan have also been omitted from the squad.

Miles Bascombe, CWI’s director of cricket, noted that the selection process for the squad was led by Head Coach Andre Coley, with a new selection process set to be introduced soon.

The West Indies, coming off a 3-0 whitewash in England and currently at the bottom of the World Test Championship table, will face South Africa in two Tests. The matches are scheduled to be held in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad, from August 7 to 11, and in Providence, Guyana, from August 15 to 19.
