On Thursday, a significant group of Chinese investors met with Punjab’s Minister for Industries and Commerce, Chaudhry Shafay Hussain, to discuss the establishment of an electric bike plant in the region. The meeting, held in the Punjab Investment Board’s committee room, also addressed potential cooperation in technical education, the IT sector, and the electric business.
Minister Hussain highlighted the government’s commitment to promoting electric vehicles to combat environmental pollution. He announced plans to distribute 10,000 electric bikes to university and college students and assured that the government would provide all possible support for the establishment of the new plant.
Hussain emphasized the high-quality industrial infrastructure available in Punjab’s industrial estates and the special incentives offered in special economic zones. He welcomed Chinese investment in the electric sector and noted that the Punjab government is also focusing on promoting solar energy, with plans to establish a solar panel manufacturing factory and transition industrial estates to solar energy.
In addition to these initiatives, the government is working on enhancing technical education and upgrading Tevta institutions. The Chinese company Niko Chan expressed enthusiasm for collaborating with local businesses, confirming their intention to set up the electric bike plant and build charging stations in Punjab. The investors requested six kanals of land for a research center, and the meeting was attended by various Chinese company officials and Punjab Investment Board officers.
