Laura Delany will captain the Ireland team for five white-ball matches in Belfast and Dublin, including three ODIs that contribute to the ICC Women’s Championship standings.
The squad features a debut call-up for Alice Tector, the younger sister of Ireland men’s batter Harry Tector, and Christina Coulter-Reilly, who is also set to make her debut in the two T20Is starting on August 11.
Ireland coach Ed Joyce anticipates a challenging series against Sri Lanka and urges his players to rise to the occasion. “Every international series is crucial for us as we aim for progression. It’s always difficult facing teams ranked higher than us,” Joyce remarked.
He added, “Sri Lanka has shown significant improvement. We were hoping to face them in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup qualifiers but fell short. They have a formidable player in captain Chamari Athapaththu, and the rest of their team is young, eager, and performing well. This makes both series against them very challenging.”
