At least 19 people have died in Ethiopia after a boat capsized on a river in the country’s northwest, according to a state-run media outlet on Sunday.
The tragedy took place in the Amhara region on Saturday as a group of people were crossing the Tekeze River, which partially forms the border between Ethiopia and Eritrea, the Ethiopian Press Agency (EPA) reported.
There were at least 26 people on board when the accident occurred.
Seven people, including a child, have been rescued, but only two bodies have been recovered so far, according to the EPA.
This incident marks the second major tragedy in Ethiopia in recent days. On Monday, a landslide in the south killed over 250 people.
