Apple’s upcoming artificial intelligence features, known as Apple Intelligence, will arrive later than expected and miss the initial release of the iPhone and iPad software updates, Bloomberg News reported on Sunday.
The tech giant plans to begin rolling out Apple Intelligence to customers as part of software updates by October, according to sources familiar with the matter. These AI features are slated to arrive a few weeks after the initial iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 releases planned for September.
Apple intends to make Apple Intelligence available to software developers for early testing this week via iOS 18.1 and iPadOS 18.1 betas. The company has not yet responded to requests for comments outside regular business hours.
In June, Apple emphasized its AI initiatives with a range of new features and software enhancements for its iPhone and other devices, aiming to boost declining sales. Apple Intelligence, which uses AI to generate text, images, and other content on demand, will be available on the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and devices with the M1 chip and later versions.
Additionally, iPhone Mirroring on macOS Sequoia will enable users to view and interact with their phone’s screen on Mac computers.
This delay follows Apple’s decision in late June to postpone the launch of three new AI features. The postponement was necessary to comply with landmark European Union tech rules, which require ensuring that rival products and services can operate with Apple’s devices.
