Bollywood lyricist Javed Akhtar has filed an application requesting the issuance of a non-bailable warrant against actor and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut due to her alleged repeated non-appearance in court.
Ranaut was scheduled to appear in court on Saturday but failed to attend. In response, Akhtar’s lawyer, Jay Bharadwaj, filed a plea noting that Ranaut had previously requested a permanent exemption from court appearances, which was denied by both the Sessions Court and the Bombay High Court.
Bharadwaj highlighted that despite the rejection of Ranaut’s exemption application, she has missed several court dates and filed for exemptions. A bailable warrant was issued against her on March 1, 2021, for similar reasons.
Akhtar’s complaint against Ranaut dates back to 2020 and relates to remarks she made in a television interview about a 2016 encounter between the two.
