The Indian cricket team is unlikely to travel to Pakistan for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025 as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is reluctant to grant permission, according to reports on Thursday.
Indian media has claimed that the BCCI proposed Sri Lanka and Dubai as alternative venues for India’s matches in the tournament. The ICC Champions Trophy is scheduled to be held from February to March 2025 in Pakistan. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had suggested that India play all their matches in Lahore.
However, the BCCI is not prepared to allow the Indian team to travel to Pakistan. India has not played any cricket tournaments in Pakistan since the 2008 Asia Cup due to heightened tensions between the two nations.
Last year, the Pakistan team traveled to India to participate in the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023.
Last week, the PCB sent a revised schedule of the Champions Trophy to the International Cricket Council (ICC), proposing March 1 as the date for the high-voltage clash between the host nation and India in Lahore. The schedule was circulated to the seven other countries participating in the event.
The tournament will begin on February 19, 2025, with the first match to be played in Karachi, and will conclude on March 9 in Lahore, with a reserve day on March 10 for the final.
Karachi will host three matches and Rawalpindi five matches, while seven matches will be played in Lahore. Karachi and Rawalpindi are scheduled to host a semifinal each.
Champions Trophy’s Group A will feature Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, and New Zealand, while Group B will include Australia, England, South Africa, and Afghanistan.
