In an effort to expedite Punjab CM Maryam’s Jail Reform Agenda, authorities initiated the distribution of meal boxes and water to inmates before their court appearances on Monday.
According to officials, approximately 7,000 inmates are receiving lunch boxes and cold water daily across 43 jails in Punjab.
Additionally, flour grinding machines are being installed in jails, and efforts are underway to utilize jail lands for agriculture. Tractors and various agricultural instruments are being brought in to make the land cultivable.
Authorities also reported that wheat and fresh vegetables are being grown to provide meals for inmates. The Punjab government is placing special emphasis on the welfare of those incarcerated.
