Federal Minister for Industries, Production, and Food Security, Rana Tanveer Hussain, has announced the government’s intention to purchase surplus wheat from farmers. He highlighted that PASSCO, the agency responsible for maintaining strategic food stocks, is actively engaged in procuring wheat and ensuring transparency throughout the purchase process.
In addition to wheat procurement, efforts have been made to address other agricultural needs. Online registration for the supply of bardana (bags) has commenced, and initiatives are underway to provide fertilizers to farmers at fixed rates.
Minister Hussain emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring that every wheat farmer receives the opportunity to sell their surplus produce. Despite ongoing farmer protests, he assured the public that measures are being taken to address concerns. This includes the prime minister’s directive to establish a mechanism for wheat procurement, demonstrating the government’s dedication to supporting farmers and maintaining food security.
