Jannik sinner advances after tough battle, marozsan scores upset at miami open.

World number three Jannik Sinner faced a formidable challenge from Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor but managed to secure a hard-fought victory, progressing to the fourth round of the Miami Open with a 5-7, 7-5, 6-1 triumph on Sunday.

Struggling against Griekspoor’s powerful game in the first set, the second-seed Italian found his rhythm after a rain break during the second set, turning the tide of the match in his favor. Sinner displayed resilience and aggression, ultimately dominating the third set to secure his spot in the last 16.

Reflecting on his performance, Sinner remarked, “I think even the first set was really close, but it got away… mentally I tried to stay strong, which I did, and I was in a tough situation today. After the rain came, I tried to come back a bit more aggressive, which I did, and obviously I’m really happy.”

Awaiting Sinner in the next round is the winner of the match between Australian Christopher O’Connell and the USA’s Martin Damm.

Meanwhile, Hungarian Fabian Marozsan caused an upset by defeating world number seven Holger Rune with a convincing 6-1, 6-1 victory in the second round. Marozsan’s commanding performance, lasting just 59 minutes, marked his third win against a top-10 opponent in a Masters event. Displaying dominance from the start, Marozsan exhibited high-intensity tennis, overwhelming his Danish opponent with 23 winners and fending off all three break points he faced.

Expressing his satisfaction with the win, Marozsan stated, “I enjoy playing at the highest level… I tried to put more pressure on him and I played very high intensity tennis and maybe he didn’t find the way to come back or do something different.”

Marozsan is set to face Alexei Popyrin in the third round, following the Australian’s victory over Czech Jiri Lehecka.

In other matches, Ben Shelton of the United States maintained the American presence in the tournament with a solid 6-3, 6-4 win over Spanish teenager Martin Landaluce. Shelton’s flawless serving and overall strong performance propelled him to victory, setting up a third-round clash against 23rd seed Italian Lorenzo Musetti, who defeated Russian Roman Safiullin in straight sets.
