Executives, unfortunately the state of today’s US economy is such that you may need to take on a position at a level below what your career trajectory would normally dictate. When facing such a situation, here are some strategies to interview at your very best, project a positive attitude, and win an offer for your next position.
Express a commitment to the organization. No employer wants to feel you may only be in his company to tide yourself over a short time. If you’re going to apply for a role, demonstrate enthusiasm in the interview. Practice your answers in front of another person, and have that person provide feedback on your tone and unspoken messages you may be communicating.
Show your intelligence, but don’t show off. It’s quite possible you could solve all the potential employer’s problems inside of a year. However resist the urge to play every card you have during the interview. Be calculated. Otherwise, you could intimidate the person whose job it is to hire you.
Build relationships from even before the interview. You reached executive status in part because of your ability to cultivate rapport and strike partnerships. Do so in this process as well, from the first phone call you receive in response to your resume, to the day of the interview and beyond. Engage everyone you meet in the potential employer’s organization. Doing so will help you appear to others to be personally vested in the business.
Attitude will play a key role in how you fare in the job market during these tough economic times. Executives, you already know you have the specific core competencies to do the job. Now is time to showcase your personality. No position is a step back. Every position is an opportunity to show your worth. That was some very sound advice it is very true you want to build bridges not break them especially in these hard times one really needs to hold onto their jobs and if they are looking for new ones they have to be able to confidence and hope to the place that they are joining.
